Bobby Richardson, a hometown hero from Sumter, South Carolina, made his mark as a stellar second baseman for the New York Yankees from 1955 to 1966, earning three World Series titles and the 1960 World Series MVP award. After his playing days, Richardson turned to coaching, leading the University of South Carolina to its first-ever College World Series appearance in 1975 and setting the foundation for decades of Gamecock baseball success. In 1986, he guided Coastal Carolina University to a Big South Conference championship, cementing his legacy as both a champion player and a transformative coach.
